GKV Hires Communications Strategist
GKV announced today that Deidre McCabe, former Director of Communications for the Maryland Department of Health (MDH), will join the Baltimore-based communications agency as its Communications Strategist, focusing on the new GKV Health division and other initiatives.
“Once in a while timing works perfectly. Our opportunity to hire Deidre is one of those times,” said GKV CEO Roger Gray. “Her deep experience in public health awareness and education is an ideal fit for GKV’s recently launched health care marketing division.”
Prior to joining GKV, McCabe held a number of communications leadership roles in government and nonprofit organizations. As Director of Communications for MDH, she developed a statewide communications program for the $17 billion agency, built a robust communications team and coordinated with 24 local health departments. For two and a half years, she directed the state’s public response for the COVID-19 pandemic in collaboration with the Governor’s Office, other state agencies, dozens of community partners and multiple contractors.
“During the COVID pandemic, I worked with GKV’s team almost daily to develop multiple campaigns, a website and outreach materials related to the crisis,” said McCabe. “Seeing the agency’s dedication to its clients and the incredible level of creativity and professionalism they brought to every assignment, I felt joining their team and working on major projects for the agency seemed like the perfect fit.”
McCabe began her communications career as a newspaper reporter, working for community weeklies and then for nine years with The Baltimore Sun, where she covered a variety of beats. She worked as Director of Communications for Howard County, Md. before taking on the communications role at MDH. During her career, she has served as Communications Director of the Maryland Department of Disabilities, Communications Coordinator for the Maryland Port Administration and Senior Writer and Editor for the Columbia Association.
She earned a bachelor’s degree in English from Boston College and a master’s degree in journalism from the University of Maryland, College Park.
McCabe and her husband, Chris, recently decided to give up Maryland winters and now live full time in St. Petersburg, Florida, where she works remotely for GKV. Their four adult children and partners have relocated as well and live nearby.
